Overview of Cara Klein’s Disaster Safety Initiatives and Expertise
As a former Directing of Advertising and PR for one of the US’s largest impact-resistant window manufacturers, Cara brings important technology manufacturing perspective to the disaster safety movement. Cara helped to develop and implement the branding and the comprehensive strategic marketing program for the PGT® WinGuard® Impact-Resistant Window and Door product line. This insightful marketing program, directed at trade and consumer audiences, generated strong brand awareness, millions of dollars in free, national media exposure, and helped PGT maintain its national market leadership position for 8 consecutive years.
Following Hurricane Charley in 2004, Cara managed the development of an award-winning marketing campaign that promoted the safety benefits of impact-resistant windows and doors. The campaign, which included TV, radio, direct mail and print advertising, contributed to a 30+% sales growth within one year.
Cara’s tenure with PGT also gave her extensive experience overseeing the development of sales support materials including websites, brochures, co-op programs, sales presentations and trade show booths. These skills have proven invaluable to DSS clients.
With nearly a decade of mitigation alliance development and industry involvement, Cara gained a broad understanding of complementary technologies that enhance safety at home or at the office, including garage doors, structural building components and more. This perspective, along with Cara’s in-depth understanding of trade and consumer attitudes towards mitigation, has been a strong asset for DSS clients seeking to develop new safety solutions or bring new products to market.
As a principal with DSS, Cara has demonstrated tremendous versatility by leveraging her technology and manufacturing expertise, along with her deep understanding of the mitigation movement and social challenges and policies associated with it, to support the needs of non-profit organizations and insurance companies. For DSS client Rx Response, which works to ensure the continued flow of medicine to patients following major disasters, Cara provides marketing counsel and directs a wide range of agency activities that support growth and enhancement of key stakeholder and alliance partnerships. Cara also plays a leading role in supporting the RenaissanceRe Risk Sciences Foundation, managing major web development projects and providing event management expertise for this long-term client.
Cara’s corporate marketing and ad agency account service background, coupled with Eric Cote’s public policy and media expertise, provide a powerful combination for DSS clients.
